Housekeeping Checklist
One per room, per clean — bathroom, bedroom, amenities and a final walk-through.
What’s inside
- Bathroom, bedroom and amenities sections, each with its own checklist
- Room, cleaner and date fields at the top
- A section to flag maintenance issues rather than work around them
- Two pages, ready to print — clear enough to read from across a laundry cart
Why this exists
Housekeeping quality is only as consistent as whichever checklist is taped to the supply cart that week — or isn't. A checklist that lives in one housekeeper's head is fine until that person is sick, on leave, or has moved on, and the standard leaves with them. Printed and consistent, it also gives a new hire something to work from on day one, rather than trailing an experienced colleague for a week and hoping the standard transfers.
In MangoHost, the checklist becomes a live room board — one tap moves a room from dirty to clean to inspected, visible to the whole team at once, with nothing to print or reprint each week.
Questions, answered
- Should I laminate this and reuse it, or print a fresh copy per room?
- Either works. A laminated copy with a wipe-off marker survives longer and costs less over a season; a fresh paper copy per clean gives you a paper trail of who cleaned what and when, which is useful if a guest complains about a specific room on a specific day.
- What if a room fails the final walk-through?
- Send it back through the relevant section rather than spot-fixing the one thing you noticed — a room that failed on one point often has a second thing wrong that a rushed spot-fix will miss. Note it on the checklist so the pattern is visible if it keeps happening with the same room or the same person.
- How long should a full clean actually take?
- It depends on room size and what changed — a same-day turnover after checkout takes longer than a stay-over refresh. Most small properties find a first-time clean of a standard room runs 25–40 minutes once staff know the checklist well; track your own time rather than target someone else's number, since layouts and standards differ property to property.
- Can I adapt this for a stay-over clean rather than a full turnover?
- Yes, and most properties end up with two versions once they think about it — a shorter stay-over pass (fresh towels, bin emptied, bed tidied, bathroom wiped) and this full version for checkout turnovers. Start from this one and cut what a returning guest would not want disturbed, like moving their belongings around.
