BIR registration

BIR registration is a property's registration with the Bureau of Internal Revenue — the tax registration that makes it a legal business.

Why it matters

You cannot legally take a booking or issue a receipt without it, and it is what your TIN, your VAT status and your official receipt authority all hang off.

It also determines what your restaurant receipts must show. A VAT-registered business decomposes VAT out of the price; a non-VAT one must not print a VAT line at all.

Practically, it is also the document a serious guest, a corporate client or a lender will ask to see. Properties that keep it current tend to find that the rest of their paperwork follows, because the renewal dates cluster.
