Shift report
A shift report is a short record filed by the staff member at the end of a shift: hours, rooms handled, tasks completed, and anything that went wrong.
Worked example
- An evening shift files: 8 hours, 6 rooms turned, 7 of 9 tasks done, one issue — the pool pump sounding wrong.
- The pump becomes a work order that night rather than a failure on Saturday.
- Over a month, that staff member's rollup shows 22 reports, 176 hours and a 92% task rate.
Why it matters
It replaces the handover conversation that either happens badly or does not happen. The next shift, and the owner, read the same facts.
Over months it also becomes the only performance evidence a small property has that is not somebody's impression.
The habit is worth more than any single report. A property where shift reports are filed consistently has a written record of its own operation, which is the thing most small hotels simply do not have.
