Lead time (booking window)

Lead time is how far in advance a booking is made — the gap between the booking date and the arrival date.

Worked example

  1. A property finds its median lead time is 11 days.
  2. That means half of next month is still unbooked with two weeks to go — normal, not alarming.
  3. It also means a rate change made today affects roughly half the coming month, and nothing beyond it.

Why it matters

It tells you how much of next month is knowable today. A property with a two-week lead time cannot forecast a quarter, and should not staff or price as though it can.

Lead time differs sharply by market. Korean and European guests book months ahead; domestic weekend traffic books on Thursday.

Short lead times are not a weakness; they are a constraint on planning. A property that knows its window is two weeks stops trying to forecast a quarter and starts making decisions weekly, which is the right cadence for it.

In MangoHost

Bookings carry both their creation date and their arrival date, and guest country is on the profile — which is what lets you see that your lead time is really two different curves.
